Lateral epicondylitis or “tennis elbow” involves pain over the outer aspect of the elbow. Pain may be specific to the site or radiate down the forearm. While there are many causes of this condition, most involve repetitive motion at the elbow joint with rotation of the forearm. These symptoms may or may not involve the sport of tennis.
Rehab SECRETS for this condition are:
- Take anti-inflammatory medications as directed by your physician.
- Ice to the affected area for 20 minutes as needed or massage area with an ice cup for 5 minutes.
- Decrease painful activity for 2-3 weeks.
- Massage the forearm muscles below the painful area.
- If you work on a computer, have an ergonomic evaluation performed.
- Stretching should not increase pain. Stretch in a pain-free range.
- If your condition does not improve ask for a referral to Community Rehab Physical Therapy.
