Rehab Secrets
Shin splints are characterized by painful inflammation of the muscles surrounding the shinbone, often caused by overuse, such as running or jogging on hard surfaces.

Rehab SECRETS for this condition are:

  1. Take anti-inflammatory medications as directed by your physician.
  2. Ice to the affected area for 20 minutes as needed or massage with an ice cup for 5 minutes.
  3. Decrease painful activity for 2-3 weeks.
  4. Stretching should not increase pain. Stretch in a pain-free range.
  5. If your condition does not improve ask for a referral to Community Rehab Physical Therapy.
