The Achilles tendon is a powerful tendon that attaches the gastrocnemius (calf) muscle to the calcaneus (heel bone).
Achilles tendonitis and bursitis occur from the overuse of the tendon, resulting in a constant inflammatory condition. It generally occurs over the course of a long period of time.
Rehab SECRETS for this condition are:
- Take anti-inflammatory medications as directed by your physician.
- Ice to the affected area for 20 minutes as needed.
- Decrease painful activity for 2-3 weeks.
- Consideration of appropriate footwear and/or orthotics.
- Stretching should not increase pain. Stretch in a pain-free range.
- If your condition does not improve ask for a referral to Community Rehab Physical Therapy.
