Rehab Secrets

The Achilles tendon is a powerful tendon that attaches the gastrocnemius (calf) muscle to the calcaneus (heel bone).

Achilles tendonitis and bursitis occur from the overuse of the tendon, resulting in a constant inflammatory condition. It generally occurs over the course of a long period of time.

Rehab SECRETS for this condition are:

  1. Take anti-inflammatory medications as directed by your physician.
  2. Ice to the affected area for 20 minutes as needed.
  3. Decrease painful activity for 2-3 weeks.
  4. Consideration of appropriate footwear and/or orthotics.
  5. Stretching should not increase pain. Stretch in a pain-free range.
  6. If your condition does not improve ask for a referral to Community Rehab Physical Therapy.
