The plantar fascia is a broad band of dense connective tissue that runs the length of the sole of the foot. It helps in maintaining the stability of the foot as well as bracing the arch of the foot.
Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation and strain to this tissue that is often the result of overuse or change in footwear and/or terrain.
Rehab SECRETS for this condition are:
- Fill Dixie cups with water and put them in your freezer to make ice cups. Use the ice cups for ice massage over the painful area for 5-10 minutes.
- Decrease painful activity for 2-3 weeks.
- Deep tissue massage to the area that is most sore.
- Every running shoe is designed specifically for a high or low arch foot - make sure you know what type of foot you have and the shoe store knows as well.
- Stretch in a pain-free range. Stretching should not increase pain.
If there are no improvements in your symptoms, please contact your physician regarding physical therapy.
