Patellofemoral dysfunction is a general term applied to conditions of the kneecap and knee joint and associated musculature.

Generally, it is the combination of an imbalance in the flexibility and strength of the quadriceps that leads to associated knee pain.

Treatment includes the following:

  1. Anti-inflammatory medications as directed by your physician.
  2. Ice to the affected area.
  3. Stretching activities including:
    - Quadriceps stretch
    - Hamstring stretch
    - Quadriceps strengthening

If there are no improvements in your symptoms,
please contact your physician regarding physical therapy.
